 Marketing or Desperation

I found this (no, I have nothing else to do with it!) on Flickr (posted by fraserspiers … who has rather a lot of nice pictures on Flickr actually)…

It would appear that Scotsys had staff handing out flyers to people in the queue for the Apple Store encouraging them to look at the Apple Store, but to go all the way over to Great Western Road to buy anything (which they probably didnt have in stock anyway!) …. Sadly, I wasn’t even at the opening so I don’t have one of these myself :P

Now that is inappropriate marketing (somewhat akin to us sending JustMac staff to stand outside Scotsys with flyers, which we never did … although thought about it for a short time but decided it was inappropriate and would reflect badly on the company)

We knew that the arrival of an Apple Store in Glasgow would probably kill JustMac, can’t imagine Scotsys particularly with their ongoing repair standards will stay afloat much longer anyway…

Their buy price isn’t much more than 14% less than retail, so the offers they’re running with now can’t possibly continue indefinitely without the retail units being subsidised by their other side of the business in Bellshill… And that’s without taking into account stock constraints never seem to affect Apple’s own stores.

Not to mention most of Scotsys’ staff left to work at Apple …

Anyway, their little marketing trick seems to have backfired judging by the opinion of most comment posters on Flickr.

 Getting There…

Finally getting there with the new place, thanks to all those who have helped. Still don’t have simple things like a landline telephone
(and therefore internet connection) sorted out but that should be this week :)

We’ll have to organise a house warming at some time :)
