Got this today from one of my users
“can you fix my computer so that the printer gives me blank paper when printing off from email and internet.”
Blank paper… that’s do-able… i’ll just remove the toner cartridge…
Not what they meant I imagine.

Useful App: Lighthouse

Not often do I stumble upon a genuinely useful, but unique application. Lighthouse however is incredibly useful…
Basically it’s a simple client interface to UPnP (and other similar standards) which takes the pain out of struggling with your ADSL or Cable router to forward ports to allow access to your mac remotely. For example; to make Adium’s file transfer work a bit more reliably, or allow someone else access to your mac by ssh or vnc…
Lighthouse lives in your status area, beside the Airport / Volume / Battery icons, and provides options to manually forward ports to your Mac, or to forward them as and when you open certain applications.
More information can be found on the developer’s site;

New Year 2007!

Happy New Year
It seems that Edinburgh’s Hogmanay (and Glasgow’s) suffered a repeat of the 2003 winds-blowing-pieces-of-staging-apart issue…
Oh and it seems like the West End is continuing to fall down around us… two weeeks ago nine families were evacuated from a street about 5 mins down the road from me because the wall collapsed… and the high winds yesterday brought down a chimney stack on Ruthven Street close to where the JustMac store was once….
Still, 2007 looks like it should be quite a good year for us, assuming the building stays standing ![]()
