 GMail Attacked?!

It would appear that someone has decided to start a DoS attack against GMail and it’s subscribers. GMail offers users 2Gb of eMail storage space - more than enough for most people (and it keeps growing too!) however many users will find they’re using 100% of this storage space due to a large number of eMails consisting of completely random numbers have flooded the Inbox of many subscribers.

GMail helpfully filters this content as “Spam” so it get’s put in the Spam folder from where it can easily be deleted however worryingly while the account is this full you’re unable to recieve any more mail so if you haven’t logged onto your GMail account since the 22nd - DO SO NOW and empty your Spam folder.

The messages are originating from sh3lls.us a Shell Provider in the US, Google could do a lot worse than to block this immediately before thinking of some sort of better content filter (possibly start deleting spam messages once the mailbox is full rather than waiting for the 30 day time out or perhaps only allow 5 or 10 messages from the same IP if it’s likely to be spam…)
